- French electric installations are controlled by strict regulations, which you must adhere to. Not only can you be required to undo all your installation if you don’t, which could cost you thousands of euros, but it can be dangerous. Should there be a fire in your property, and the work has not been done by a French registered electrician, then it is unlikely that your insurance company will pay out!
- Always use a French registered electrician to install an electrical system.
- UK type trip switches, circuit breakers, fuse boxes & distribution boxes cannot be used.
- Get your existing electrical system inspected, as some rural French wiring might not have been upgraded in a very long time.
- If the nearest electricity pole is further than 30m from your property, permission must be obtained from you local town hall before EDF can proceed with an installation.
- It is possible to have your existing supply up-rated.
- EDF are responsible only for the supply up to the main circuit-breaker, any faults after that are the sole responsibility of the householder.
- Careful planning at an early stage of the works, can save you time, money and frustration!
